If you desire to ride Enve and not financially suffer from it for years to come, the American carbon-fibre component brand has a new AM30 mountain bike wheelset.

Part of a strategic product portfolio review by Enve, these new AM30 wheels are available in both the 27.5” and 29” sizes and priced at a more attainable level than the brand’s previous carbon wheelsets.

These AM30 mountain bike wheels are marketed under the Foundation Collection sub-brand, and offer a new ownership opportunity for mountain bikers who have always desired Enve's, but never quite had the appropriate budget.

Engineering specification for the AM30-series sees a 20m rim depth and 30mm of internal width, which should make most high-volume mountain bike tyres seat easily and shape perfectly when mounted and inflated.

Enve claims the 20mm rim depth adds to ride quality and with its hookless design, there should also be reduced pinch flat exposure. In fact, Enve recommends not using pinch-flat mitigating inserts on their AM30 wheel, such is their confidence that the hookless rim design won’t flat your tyre in case of a high energy square-edged hit on the trail.

The overall structural quality is good enough for only 28 spokes holes, instead of 32, and the AM30s are assembled with asymmetric spoke orientation, featuring a 3mm offset to provide balanced tension.

Rim weights for are claimed to be 470g for the AM30 27.5” and 510g for the 29”. Total wheelset weights are 1745g and 1850g.

The Enve Foundation Collection AM30 mountain bike wheelsets are built with Sapim Race spokes connected to Industry Nine 101 hubs, with a choice of Boost (148mm) or Super Boost (157mm) rear axle spacing. Hub internals has six pawls and a 45t drive ring.

Enve’s Foundation Collection AM30 mountain bike wheels are priced at £1800 and include the company’s Lifetime Incident Protection Program. It covers original owners of the AM30 wheels, who will receive a crash replacement if their wheels are damaged in the course of riding use.

Alongside the AM30 mountain bike wheelset, Enve has released a 45 and 65-series Foundation Collection road bike wheelset. These feature a wide internal rim profile of 21mm which are optimised for 25- or 28C tubeless tyres.
