Hunt has officially released their new E_All Mountain wheelset, built specifically for e-MTB riding the new wheels use a reinforced alloy rim and a new hub design that should offer greater durability.

We got a sneaky peak at the new E_All mountain wheels when we caught up with Andi Sykes, MTB Brand and Marketing Manager for Hunt, at Eurobike this year. The wait is now over and the new wheels are available to pre-order.

The E_All Mountain wheelset uses the same 6069-T6 31mm alloy rim that was developed as a rear rim for the Hunt Enduro Wide V2 wheelset. The rim stresses were analyzed using FEA (Finite Element Analysis) modeling and there is internal reinforcement to support the sidewall to better withstand impacts.

The best electric mountain bike wheels are generally heavier than non-assisted MTB wheels, however, even though they are made from alloy, rather than carbon, overall weights are still very reasonable, with wheelset weights per pair being quoted as 2,143g (27.5), 2,168g (mullet), and 2,193g (29).

The hubs feature an all-new PhaseEngage e-MTB specific rear hub, with a 6x1 pawl system and a 42t ratchet ring which gives 8 degrees of engagement. This new hub design engages all six pawls at once, so it's better equipped to handle the high torque loads that are possible from the best e-MTB motors. The internals are made from steel too which Hunt says further improves durability.

The hub itself is CNC machined and uses oversized 17mm axles which should help increase hub stiffness, as well as help extend the life of the REVO dual-sealed bearings by reducing flex.

Handbuilt using 32 triple-butted Pillar PSR spokes and brass nipples, the E_All Mountain wheels are covered by a three year warranty, and a 60-day ride and return policy. The wheels are delivered ready to be set up tubeless with pre-taped rims and valves, there are also spare spokes in the box should you need them.

You can pre-order a set of E_All Mountain wheels now in either a 29-inch, 27.5-inch, or a mullet configuration. There are options for all the usual freehub options, although the hubs only come with 6-bolt disc mounts. The wheels are priced at $649 / £479 / €499 and are expected to be dispatched to pre-ordering customers next week.
