Nukeproof gives its Scout hardtail a long-awaited update

The Nukeproof Scout has proved to be a popular bike but after five years of service Nukeproof has decided that it's time for the brand's best hardtail mountain bike to get a refresh.

While the new Scout frame gets some neat new geometry updates, don't expect anything dramatic as Nukeproof have opted to try and keep the new Scout as close to the do-everything hardcore hardtail mantra that has proven so successful with the previous models.

The triple-butted, hydro-formed, aluminum frame is still built around a 140mm fork (and will accept 130-150 mm of travel) and most sizes will be available in both 27.5 inch and 29er builds. The 27.5 bike comes in sizes small to extra-large while the 29er starts at a medium and goes up to a new extra-extra-large size.

Nukeproof has updated the chainstay length based on frame size to make all the bikes ride proportionally the same which is a nice touch. The rear ends increase by increments of 2.5mm as you move through the sizes.

Geometry gets a refresh – albeit with small tweaks. Half a degree slacker at the front and one degree steeper seat tube should put the rider in a slightly better position. Reach numbers stay much the same at 470mm (sagged), however, with the introduction of a extra-extra-large and the Scouts low standover height, taller riders have an option to size up.

The frame is still a no-nonsense design with a threaded BSA bottom bracket, internal dropper and external gear and brake routing, and ISCG05 tabs for those that want to run a chain guide. The frame now benefits from a SRAM UDH (universal derailleur hanger) which should make grabbing a spare much easier. A new ribbed chainstay and downtube protector should and protection and make things quieter on the trail. The Scout only has one bottle cage mount found inside the main triangle, although there is an accessory mount under the top tube.

If you have been waiting for the Scout to be back in stock then I don't blame you if you start getting excited that this announcement will bring with it new bikes. However, the wait isn't quite over as frames won't be available till the 1st of June 2022 with full builds expected to land from the 11th of July.
