Orbea's new Onna is a budget-friendly hardtail aimed at beginners
Orbea aims to help more riders fall in love with mountain biking with its entry-level Onna hardtail
Everyone's mountain bike journey starts somewhere and Orbea is aiming to make that transition into off-road riding as simple as possible with its new Onna hardtail.
For most prospective riders, investing in a bike involves looking for the best budget mountain bikes. The Onna range features five models which are competitively priced between $799 / £629 to $1,399 / £1,099.
All the bikes come in six sizes, the S to XL sizes come with 29er wheels plus the XS and S come in 27.5-inch wheels for shorter riders who prefer smaller wheels. There are also junior versions available (EU/UK only) at all five price points which share the same geometry and 27.5-inch wheel size as the XS size adult bikes.
Replacing the MX, the Onna features an aluminum frame with some nice details such as a tapered headtube, internal routing and dropper post compatibility. The overall frame weight is roughly 1.8kg which helps keep the bike's overall weight a little lighter.
While the tapered headtube makes fork upgrades easier if you want to upgrade the 100mm suspension fork later down the line. While the quick-release wheels make fitment simple, it may limit wheel upgrade options.
Orbea understands that budget mountain bikes aren't limited to use on the trails, often taking on general riding like commuting and leisure rides as well. The dropouts feature rack mounts and there is a kickstand mount on the left chainstay.
The Onna features pretty standard XC geometry which should give a fun, comfortable and efficient ride on flowing singletracks. It has a 68.5-degree head angle and 74.5-degree seat angle with a short reach at 418mm on a medium.
To boost the value of the Onna, Orbea has looked at additional services it can offer with the Onna to assist you as you get into mountain biking. European-based customers (Spain, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Holland, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, Portugal, Austria, Denmark and Sweden) who purchase from an Orbea dealer will receive a free tune-up to help keep the bike running smoothly.
Orbea is also partnering with Wikiloc to offer a free year's subscription to the Wikiloc app, a service that offers route recommendations from other users covering all sorts of outdoor activities from mountain biking to hiking.
These additional benefits are accessed when you register your new bike on the Orbea website to activate the lifetime warranty.
