You may have read our recent review of the Santa Cruz 5010 GX AXS by our Tech Editor Guy Kesteven, and his top-scoring review may have convinced you that the 5010 is one of the best trail mountain bikes around. If you've been considering pulling the trigger on a 5010 then this incredible deal we've found may just convince you even more.

Just before Christmas we thought we had highlighted an unbeatable offer on the Santa Cruz 5010 over at Backcountry, who had dropped a superb $2,100 Christmas discount. However, for its 'New Gear' January sale, Backcountry has now gone even further with its discount and the Santa Cruz 5010 now has a massive 40% reduction, which equates to a huge $3,360 discount on the RRP.

So if your not-so-subtle Christmas hints fell on deaf ears and Santa failed to deliver a shiny new mountain bike, count yourself lucky because you can save even more in this incredible January sale deal. If this particular Santa Cruz model is on your radar, we recommend splashing the cash now, as this offer is sure to be snapped up quickly. Backcountry also has a lowest price guarantee, so if somehow you happen to find this bike even lower, they'll refund the difference.

Guy Kesteven said the Santa Cruz 5010 is, "a brilliantly balanced hero ride with its ‘best of both worlds’ MX (Mullet) wheel capability." and added, "the sweet spot kit selection and great practical detailing makes the Santa Cruz 5010 a bike that makes you feel like an absolute hero when you point it down your favorite tech trail and let rip.

The 'sweet spot spec' on the Santa Cruz 5010 includes a RockShox Pike Select+, 140mm fork, and RockShox Super Deluxe Select+ shock with 130mm of travel. It's currently available at Backcountry with a massive $3,360 discount in sizes from XS-XL in Gloss Red and S-XXL in Matte Nickel.

Why you should buy the Santa Cruz 5010

The Santa Cruz 5010 is built around the brand's superb Carbon C layup frame which is slightly heavier than the Carbon CC construction. The frame also has as Guy puts it, "a hefty but impressively sealed and rattle-free internal storage system with a neoprene ‘tube purse’ and ‘tool wallet’.

The 5010 comes in an MX (Mullet) wheeled platform, with a lively 27.5-inch rear wheel and 29-inch up front which gives versatile trail riding performance on a variety of terrains. Flip-chip technology lets riders tweak the geometry to suit their own riding style or preferred terrain, and the slackened 64.9-degree head tube angle (low position) makes the 5010 more capable than ever without sacrificing its agility.

As Guy said in his review the spec hits the 'sweet spot' and at the discounted price it's a superb selection of hard-riding components including wireless electronic gearing from SRAM and their GX AXS Eagle drivetrain and a RockShox Pike Select+, 140mm fork that's paired with a RockShox Super Deluxe Select+, 130mm rear shock. Braking also comes from SRAM and the reliable and controllable braking power of the G2 RS 4-piston hydraulic with 200/180mm rotors.

The dropper post is also from RockShox and its Reverb Stealth with travel varying from 100mm to 170mm depending on frame size. The build is completed with Race Face ARC Offset 30 rims, that roll on Maxxis tires.
