YT Industries Jeffsy – five new models including their most budget-friendly Jeffsy to date
Jeffsy becomes even more versatile with modernized geometry, a choice of frame material, and a unique in-frame storage system
YT Industries has launched the all-new Jeffsy, the brand's ever-popular trail mountain bike. The Jeffsy began its story back in 2016 as YT's first venture into 29-inch wheels, and the design concept then, as it is now, has always been simple - to deliver the best trail MTB around, a confidence-inspiring, do-it-all mountain bike.
We've always been a fan of Jeffsy, and Bike Perfect's, Rich Owen gave the top-of-the-line YT Jeffsy Uncaged 6, a glowing review saying, "The ultra-responsive nature of the Jeffsy Uncaged 6 is hard to ignore. Everywhere I rode, the bike felt as if it was champing at the bit to go faster and hit the trails harder."
So what's new in Jeffsey you ask? Here's everything you need to know about the German direct-to-consumer brand's latest MK3 Jeffsy.
Jeffsy comes with a progressive suspension design that pairs 145mm of rear wheel travel with a 150mm fork and it sits between the YT Izzo and Capra models in its riding characteristics. Versatility is the name of the game and YT says the new Jeffsy is capable on a wide range of trails and terrain, offering a balance between agility and stability. Rolling on 29-inch wheels with each frame size tailored to optimize handling and performance.
Geometry improvements
Gravity is at the core of all bikes in the YT MTB range, and compared to its predecessor, the new model gets a modernized geometry update. Jeffsy gets a slack 65-degree head angle and a flip chip that allows 8mm of bottom bracket height adjustment. Reach has grown 5mm across the sizes, making it slightly more stretched out, with size-specific chainstay lengths now at 437mm for sizes S-L and 442mm for XL-XXL. The seat angle maintains an effective 77-degrees which they add answers the demands of trail riders to provide better support and a more comfortable pedaling position on longer rides.
Unique storage and frame choices
Carbon fiber and aluminum frames are available across the Core 1-5 depending on the model, with all versions featuring the same dialed geometry. New on the carbon frames is the YT Stash Downtube Storage System, which is YT’s first foray into in-frame storage. They say the unique design solves common problems found in other in-frame storage, with the storage lid and bottle cage holder separated to avoid wobbly lids and bottles. The lid is also double-sealed for water resistance, with two neoprene bags fitting neatly in the compartment to carry tools, spares, and provisions. To ensure nothing gets caught or lost in the bottom bracket area, YT has added a separation wall to divide the storage compartment with internal cables kept neat in the downtube with sidewall bonding.
Frame protection is also improved and YT has meticulously designed seatstay, chainstay, and downtube protection to keep the Jeffsy not only protected but quiet on the trail. The DT Protection is firmly bolted to the frame and features a unique foam layer that is claimed to absorb impact noise.
The YT Postman V2 dropper post also gets a series of improvements, including a revised rail/clamp interface for simple adjustment and up to 230mm of post-travel, adjustable via travel reduction shims.
Accelerated kinematics
The Jeffsy is all about speed on any surface and the kinematics of the new models have been optimized, resulting in improved acceleration and traction on both flat and uphill trail sections, which they say also gives a rider increased energy efficiency, especially on longer rides. The anti-squat has been adjusted to be around 105 percent at 30 percent sag, with a rapid decrease to minimize pedal kickback. Additionally, the end progression has been increased, which they claim delivers an improved descent experience compared to the previous model.
These models are looking good
The Jeffsy comes in five models from the Core 1, the entry-level model featuring a RockShox Lyrik fork, Deluxe rear shock, powerful SRAM DB8 brakes, and an E*Thirteen cockpit.
The middle of the range is Core 2 and 3 featuring the same spec in an aluminum or carbon frame, respectively. These bombproof builds feature proven componentry, including a Fox 36 Performance fork, Float X shock, SRAM GX drivetrain, downhill-inspired SRAM Code R brakes, quality DT Swiss M1900 wheels, and a Renthal OE cockpit.
Core 4 gets top-performance components, including RockShox Ultimate suspension, the latest SRAM GX Transmission drivetrain, SRAM Code RSC brakes, Crankbrothers EN 2 AL wheels, and a YT-exclusive blacked-out Renthal Apex cockpit. The Core 5 is the top of the line with a dream build featuring YT's highest-grade Ultra Modulus carbon fiber, Fox Factory suspension, SRAM X0 Transmission drivetrain, SRAM Code RSC brakes with HS2 rotors, Crankbrothers EN 3 AL wheels, and a factory Renthal bar and stem combo.
All models feature the latest YT Postman V2 dropper (125mm S, 150mm M, 170mm L, 200mm XL, 230mm XXL) and Maxxis DHF and DHR II tires.
