BMC release a sub-16kg, electric version of its downcountry bike, the Fourstroke AMP LT
BMC announce a fourth bike in the Fourstroke family, the sub-16kg 120mm downcountry Fourstroke AMP LT e-MTB
Following last week's three bike announcements from BMC, the Swiss brand has launched a fourth bike, the Fourstroke AMP LT. The 120mm downcountry bike uses a TQ motor and BMC is claiming that in its top spec, the new Fourstroke AMP LT weighs in at an incredibly impressive 15.9kg.
If true, that would make BMC's new e-bike one of the best electric mountain bikes for those looking for a lightweight e-MTB that keeps a similar riding characteristic to a convention bike.
The Fourstroke AMP LT uses much of the same frame design and geometry as the recently redesigned Fourstroke LT as BMC wanted to give the e-MTB much of the same ride quality as the non-motorized version. The geometry of the new bike sits at a contemporary 66.5-degree head angle, a 77-degree seat angle, a 40mm bottom bracket drop and a 457mm reach for a medium.
Another key consideration when it came to maintaining a natural ride feel was keeping the overall weight low. A big part to play in achieving this was by speccing TQ's HPR50 Drive Unit and 360 Wh battery, which is said to add only 3,900 grams to the overall weight of the bike.
“We always make sure to deliver nothing else than perfection. With the revolutionary power and natural riding feel of the brand-new TQ-HPR50 drive unit, we are sure to amplify the riding experience” Stefan Christ, Head of R&D at BMC.
TQ might be a new name to many riders, but BMC isn't the first brand to spec motors from this German technology manufacturer. Trek uses the same unit on the recently released Fuel EXe and it's likely to show up on more lightweight e-MTBs in the future due to its small size.
