Endura’s MT500 kit has been a benchmark for bombproof gear for the hardest riders since their iconic kevlar stitched, Cordura reinforced bib shorts from the 1990s. MT500 jacket, trousers and shorts have been some of the most heavily used items in our riding wardrobe for years and we’ve lived in their pricey but worst-weather-beating MT500 onesie for the last two winters as well. The good news is that the Scottish brand has worked hard with long time ambassadors the Athertons to make the latest evolutions tougher than ever and they’ve increased their already excellent ‘Made Kind’ eco-credentials with a #ForceForGood superhero media campaign. Pricing is properly premium now though.

MT500 Jacket

The MT500 jacket has always been a really versatile coat, with loads of pockets and ‘everyday’ features as well as venting to back up the great breathability. The new jacket uses a DR version of their ExoShell40 fabric which increases rip and scuff protection of the outer layer without compromising sweat shifting. It also features re-positioned, dual-purpose, double-ended chest pocket/vents, a reshaped hood that works over a helmet or just your bare head. A slightly slimmer overall fit still leaves enough room for pads and backplate too.

MT500 Onesie II

Our favorite ‘not sure we’ll use it much, oh hang on we’re living in it’ item, the MT500 onesie is revised to be even better at transforming the most gruelling experiences into a great day riding. It now gets a more separate style complete with a jacket tail and uprated waterproofing on the seat where you need it most. Silicon shoulder reinforcing, massive side vents and a more secure hood, plus the tougher ExoShell40DR fabric all make this an awesome investment for riders who are heading out whatever the weather.

MT500 Waterproof Trouser II and Shorts II

The trousers and shorts get the new, tougher ExoShell40DR fabric with sealed seams and a more durable seat section. Hand pockets are water-resistant and the weatherproof side zips on the trousers are extended up to the thigh for pulling on/off convenience. It’s double-ended with a mesh panel behind the top section so that can be used as a vent too.

 “Made kind”

Endura are already committed to a high level of sustainability including their 1,000,000 tree planting program (620,000 planted so far) but the new range goes deeper in terms of eco-friendly fabric spec as well. ExoShell40DR uses a PFC free DWR treatment, fluorine-free membrane and a certified non-toxic supply chain. One per cent of net profit is given to “good, social and environmental, global causes”.
