Has Cube just made urban transportation easier than ever with its new Longtail Hybrid cargo bike?

The cargo bike concept shows no sign of stopping anytime soon with some of the best bike brands introducing new models almost weekly. German brand Cube has now launched its new lineup of compact cargo bikes which feature extra-long luggage-carrying capability. Hot on the heels of Specialized recently introducing its new Globe Haul LT e-cargo bike, and also UK bike brand Raleigh entering the rapidly growing market with its foldable Raleigh Modum e-bike, the cargo bike market is certainly a competitive place to be launching new models. We had a nosey at what makes the Cube Longtail Hybrid 725 range stand out from the rest.

Cube says its compact cargo bike is all about versatility for everyday use with its longtail that takes inspiration from classic trekking bikes but features a stable, elongated luggage carrier, claimed to be perfect for load-carrying practicality. It can transport up to two children, and has a 40x60cm Eurobox option or the choice of generously sized panniers on the sturdy luggage carrier. Cube says the bike is rated to carry 40kg up top and 10kg at each side, giving 60kg in total, with the option to upgrade with a front rack to add a further 20kg of cargo-carrying capacity.

Similar to the Specialized Globe Haul LT, the Cube 725 comes in the brand's 'One Size' concept that makes adjustability super easy with a telescopic seatpost and height-adjustable Speedlifter stem, which make the bike suitable for a wide range of riders from 1.60 to 1.90 meters. Cube says it will deliver a confident ride for virtually anyone. The compact wheelbase and 26-inch wheels are also aimed to deliver confidence and the familiar handling and comfort of a standard bike.

It's available in two options: the Longtail Hybrid, which is belt driven, and the Longtail Sport Hybrid, a traditional chain drivetrain bike. Power in both comes from Cube's longstanding power partner Bosch, with the powerful fourth-generation Bosch CX Line motor and 725Wh battery pack aimed to make the bikes easy to use.

A vast range of optional accessories are also available. As mentioned, children can sit comfortably on the padded bench seat or the luggage carrier is compatible with conventional child seats to safely carry children who are too small to ride on the bench seat. There is also side protection to keep feet and trouser legs away from the spokes. Wooden step boards can be used as footrests for the kids or as a platform to carry parcels. A rail keeps a Eurobox or other larger items safely in place or doubles up as a handrail for the children.

Matching pannier sets with 45 liters at each side give bags of extra space to pack shopping or other essentials. Cube has also designed its own luggage interface with its inhouse accessories brand ACID to enable a plethora of luggage and carry options like the additional front rack that gives room for another 30x40cm Eurobox or a bag.

A lockable storage compartment with flexible partitions in the down tube keeps valuables safely under lock and key. The down tube can also take a compatible luggage rack with two mounting points.
